Tips on How to Target Your Ideal Audience

Happy 2022 to all our Bird's iSocial followers & clients! We hope you've had a wonderful past few holiday weeks with friends & family. Can you believe 2022 is already upon us? We can't! With the New Year fresh on everyone's minds, we know the start of the year is stressful for many companies & businesses (we are no exception!) What new promotions are we going to push? How are we going to stretch our markets & gain new customers? And essentially, how are we going to increase our revenue? With these questions swirling around, the team at Bird's iSocial wanted to revolve our January blog around targeting your ideal audience, which can help all of the above & set your mind straight in the New Year.

Learning how to create social media campaigns, ads, and emails that can land in your ideal "target audience" is critical for any business or entrepreneur. It's been proven that the better you understand their target market/audience, the easier it is to focus your ads and better target your audience.

When deciding what audience you want to target, it's important to remember that it's not "everyone." There's no way to fully engage & create positive results if you want to hit and impact everyone. It's truly impossible. One of our wonderful clients explicitly wants to target adults in their 30s and above. We know we're not going to try out "Millenial" ad examples with that knowledge. More detailed information is the route they would want to go. However, if they wanted to enlarge their target audience, we could go for a gamble & switch up our creative styles to better suit other populations.

Target audience definition

In a very simple form, a target audience is a specific group of people or future clients that you want to reach with your various social media posts/emails. These are the people who are most likely interested in your products or services. And who you are most interested in receiving business from. They are likely united by some common characteristics, like demographics and behaviors.

Having a clear target audience is critical so you can speak the same language as your audience. With this, you can increase their interaction on your social media pages, develop a brand or business loyalty, and ultimately purchase your product/you as a business!

Figure out who your customers are now & dive into that data.

In 2021 what types of people are the most interested in your business? This is a great place to start. Start with the people already buying from you, following you, and interacting with your posts. Focus on points of…

Age

Location: This is HUGE for many of our clients; with information about their communities, you can tailor aspects of your ads to fit their surroundings.

Language: What language does your target audience speak? Please don't assume it's your language.

Stage of life: Does your social media target audience include college students? New parents? Parents of teens? Retirees?

What social media platforms are the most active?

Once you understand who your audience is, figure out where they're hanging out online so you can have a great chance to "speak" with them.

Statistics from Pew Research Center & Statista have shown that "older generations have increased their Facebook use in the past four years. In fact, the share of the Silent generation using Facebook has nearly doubled." In the other direction, it's been found that Twitter appeals to younger audiences. "In fact, 38% of Twitter users are between the ages of 18-29, and 26% of users are 30-49." As well as Instagram appealing to younger generations, with "35% of users being ages 25-34 and 30% being 18-24."

Once you know which platforms your ideal target audience uses the most, it's go time!
